The S-ITUATION project group consists of partners from five Nordic Countries:
- Norway (NIVA – Norwegian Institute for Water Research)
- Denmark (Aarhus University)
- Finland (Luke – Natural Resources Institute)
- Iceland (Agricultural University of Iceland)
- Sweden (Lund University)
The researchers and contributors (see below) cover competences on all major ecosystems, biogeographical regions, solutions/actions, and languages. The project partners are and have been involved in a large number of NbS and synthesis focused projects and have strong connections to the major NbS stakeholders across the Nordic countries.

The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) is a national research institute organized as a private foundation. The institute is leading in Norway on aquatic ecosystem research covering both marine and freshwaters with 300 staff, mostly scientists. Our activities cover research, monitoring and advisory services to both public and private organizations.
Role in S-ITUATION project: Project coordination; Natural and social sciences; Freshwater, Marine; Artificial and Urban; Artic ecosystems; Communication & Dissemination; Quality assurance.

Aarhus University is a public research university located in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the largest and second oldest university in Denmark. The university is a member of the European University Association. The Department of Bioscience at AU has a unique research environment at top international level in the field of freshwater ecology.
Role in S-ITUATION project: Partner and Steering group member; Freshwater ecosystems (lakes, rivers, wetlands including arctic regions).

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research insitute with nearly 1300 employees, located at 12 research locations and 8 experimental stations. Researchers and specialists working in Luke provide new solutions towards the sustainable development of the Finnish bioeconomy and the promotion of new biobased businesses. Research focuses mostly on utilization of natural resources, including, e.g., water, agriculture, forests and peatlands.
Role in S-ITUATION project: Expertise on natural disturbance dynamics in forests; Alternatives for forest management; Restoration in forested environments; Solutions for combining pest risks, timber production and biodiversity; Restoration in forested environments.

The Agricultural University of Iceland (AUI) is an educational and research institution in the field of agriculture and environmental sciences. The main focus is on the conservation and sustainable use of land and animal resources, including traditional agriculture, horticulture and forestry, environmental planning, restoration sciences, rural development and sustainable development.
Role in S-ITUATION project: AUI will participate in all WPs; Terrestrial Ecosystems; Coastal and Marine Ecosystems and Artificial and Urban Ecosystems.

Lund University is a public research university in Sweden and one of northern Europe’s oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. Center for Environment and Climate Science is a multidisciplinary institution at Natural Science Faculty, that have institutionalized connection with science faculty institutions, political science, and sustainability science.
Role in S-ITUATION project: Support in the review with perspectives on Sweden; NBS in Urban areas; Biodiversity contribution of NBS; Landscape level perspectives; ”NBS politics” – Green space Governance; methods for stakeholder interaction in science production.
