S-UMMATION team and the pilots met in Denmark

In June several of the pilots and involved in the Nordic NBS programme got together to discuss experiences in a workshop. We also got to visit the Holmehave project.

At the annual event “Folkemøde” on the Danish island Bornholm, several project leaders in the Nordic NBS programme participated in an event on the 17. June about nature-based solutions (NBS) in the Nordic tent. Folkemødet (“The people’s meeting”), is Denmark’s democracy festival about societal opportunities and challenges.

Presenting the NBS pilots and S-UMMATION

This provided a great opportunity to get together and share experiences and join discussions on NBS in the Nordic context. The presentations from the NBS pilot leaders showed how NBS can be done in many different ways.

Although the pilots are different, we have also seen some shared experiences and common features in the S-UMMATION project which is following the progress of the pilots. The findings so far were presented at the meeting by S-UMMATION project leader Line Barkved and Leonard Sandin.

Workshop in Assens

In addition to participating in the Folkemøde on Bornholm, Line Barkved and Leonard Sandin in the S-UMMATION project organized a workshop on 19. June with five of the eight pilots in Assens (on the island Funen) to further discuss and reflect on the successes and challenges that the pilots have experiences so far.

Assens Municipality kindly hosted the meeting at the town hall.  Taking part both at Bornholm and in Assens were also representatives of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ NBS program committee.

In Assens we also got to learn more about and visit the area of the Holmehave pilot project which is about creating a strategic comprehensive plan for Holmehaven using multifunctional land distribution for the establishment of afforestation, nature and wetlands.

Project leader Jannnik Seslef of the Holmehaven project and representatives from Assens municipality, VandCenter Syd and Hedeselskabet showed us around and shared knowledge and experiences from the project.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the workshop and provided valuable inputs that we will take with us into the final stages of the S-UMMATION project!
